No more hangovers with just a glass of kombucha!

“I will never drink again!” I have said it dozens of times, and usually around the early afternoon of a day lost in bed.
No matter how careful you are with alcohol intake, there are situations where we desire to relax or celebrate something, drink too much, or even worse – we mix different types of it. It’s going to be a tough morning, especially if you have plans for the day. What to do? How to recover and to survive in this life? And why does the sunlight come into your room, illuminating the bed with the power of a Jedi sword?
Okay, I will not bother you in your condition right now to read my post until the end.
Your salvation is a big glass of cold kombucha!
If you have one, drink it and everything will come in place.
There is nothing to explain, except that soon you will feel that the end of the world is postponed. But since you probably did not prepare a glass of a rescue drink, read the text to the end to know how to deal with the hangover and even how not to have one the next time you go for a drink with your friends.
Let’s start with what happens to you after drinking 400 ml of vodka for example. The amount is indicative. No matter what type of alcohol you consume, ethanol is the ingredient that causes your body to react with headaches, nausea, fatigue, light sensitivity, and total dehydration.
In this post, I will not talk about how to counteract the effects of ethanol while still drinking alcohol. I’m sure you are all aware of these practices, but for the beginners I have to scream: drink as much water as possible during the whole party!
At least that does not require much effort.
So here’s what’s happening to us while we enjoy the nice company with a glass in hand:
- Dehydration – if you have forgotten to drink more water, ethanol acts as a diuretic and your body dehydrates slowly and imperceptibly.
- Water-salt balance is disturbed – the diuretic properties of alcohol make you urinate more often, thus losing important minerals and vitamins, which also hampers the absorption of the few remaining. Particularly serious is the situation with magnesium and zinc, as well as vitamins, such as E and C, which have important detoxifying tasks.
- Intoxication – alcohol is a powerful toxin, and to clean it from your body your liver and kidneys are working hard for days. Their regeneration is long and, in some cases, incomplete. Remember, you have deprived them of very important micro- and macro elements, and especially of liquids that carry the few remaining nutrients and improve their performance.
- Increases anxiety – even if at first glance the intake of alcohol relaxes you the end result is that it increases your anxiety. In addition, alcohol disturbs normal sleep, and you know that sleep deficiency also leads to increased anxiety.
Now you know what changes occur in your body while you are drinking alcohol. This is the first step to deal with the problem.
How will kombucha get you out of the severe physiological condition called hangover?
First I want you to remember that it is best to drink kombucha during alcohol consumption.
It basically goes well with vodka and gin, and also is a pleasant soft additive to other liquors.
If you do not have a bottle of the precious kombucha in hand, do not forget to drink one or two glasses before going to bed.
- HYDRATION – as I said, drink plenty of water and let the kombucha be part of the fluids you take. This helps to cope with the diuretic effect caused by the alcohol.
- DETOXIFICATION – your body is loaded with toxins and you have to help it to get rid of them. Kombucha has antioxidant properties that are very important to this process. The detoxification of the body passes through two organs – liver and kidney. Due to the natural content of amino acids, yeasts, enzymes, probiotics, B vitamins and vitamin C, kombucha promotes the work of these two organs, and hence the detoxification of the whole body. If you have ginger kombucha, it will surely ease you nausea.
- WATER-SALT BALANCE – Kombucha is rich in vitamins (from fermentation) and minerals (from the tea leaves). This, plus the fact that you take them with extra fluids, will certainly improve your body’s water-salt balance.
- IMPROVES DIGESTION – Because of the dehydration caused by the alcohol you’ve lost valuable substances. Enzymes in kombucha will improve digestion, so you can restore their levels more quickly. Also, by drinking alcohol, you have made the work of good bacteria in your stomach a bit difficult. Kombucha has more strains of lactic acid bacteria than yoghurt and will help here as well. The new portion of beneficial substances that will make the most of a well-functioning stomach will give you the power and energy you need after a good party.
Well, knowing all this, I hope I have given you enough arguments always to keep kombucha in your refrigerator, as well as to visit the pubs where the drink is served.
Saving you from a hangover, kombucha will help you enjoy the pleasant company of your friends for a longer time!
